XRP 2020 Auditions

Crossroads strives to provide accessibility to a world-class caliber of instruction. Collectively, our educational team has 70+ years of marching and teaching experience, and we will do our part to provide access to this knowledge and expertise. In part, our mission is to be at the forefront of education for the marching-arts activity in the Midwest region.

Pre-season Clinics

To promote student involvement and interaction with our educational team, XRP is hosting three pre-season clinics.

  • Open to individuals of any age

  • Open to individuals with any/no prior experience

  • No commitment to march the 2020 season with Crossroads

  • Two rehearsal blocks of instruction from our Educational Team

These are meant to be a learning opportunity for anybody who wants to learn!
Details and Registration can be found below.

Crossroads Percussion competes in WGI competition under Independent Open classification (WGI PIO). Individuals interested in marching the 2020 competitive WGI season with XRP are encouraged to attend pre-season clinics as an opportunity to learn from our Educational Team, but the only event that is required is the Audition Event.

Although anybody may attend the Audition Event, to be eligible to march the 2020 season, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • 22 or younger on April 1, 2020

  • Able to attend weekend rehearsals throughout January, February, and March

  • Able to attend WGI World Championships the week of April 13-19, 2020

  • Able to meet a financial obligation (Member Fee) of approximately $1200 (payable in installments over four-months time)

  • If you are a high school student, your high school must not have a competitive winter percussion program.

Your Events begin Sunday morning - is there any way for me to travel Saturday night?

Yes! Although Crossroads does not own an overnight facility, we have a strong network of volunteers (and former marching members) who live in the area that would be more than happy to host you for the night! If this applies to you, please Register above, then reach out to us directly at CrossroadsPercussion@gmail.com regarding your specific circumstance.

I have a non-negotiable obligation on the date of the Audition Event - help!

This is more common than you may think. We do our best to avoid potential conflicts when scheduling our Events, but we can’t possibly avoid everything! If you are interested in membership, but cannot attend the Audition Event, please Register above; there is an option to indicate that you cannot attend auditions, but still would like to audition! We are happy to allow you to formally audition at one of the Pre-season Clinics. Alternatively, we can schedule a live-video audition on a different date.

What should I bring to Clinics/Auditions?

  • Crossroads provides all required equipment (instruments, sticks, mallets, cymbals, etc). Please DO NOT bring your own drums or other instruments.

  • We often have more individuals in attendance than we have instruments. If you are a Battery member (snare, tenor, bass), we encourage you to bring a practice pad.

  • Crossroads does NOT provide lunch. There are often many options for lunch within walking distance of our rehearsal sites, but individuals are encouraged to bring their own lunch if they like.

  • Individuals should wear athletic, comfortable clothing. We also may spend a portion of the Event doing marching fundamentals, so please bring athletic shoes to march in.

Can I audition on multiple instruments?

Absolutely! We do our best to find a place for everybody in the Crossroads ensemble. Auditions can be especially competitive, and we encourage less-experienced individuals to attend Pre-season clinics on multiple instruments to gain exposure to our technique, and to receive direct feedback from our Educational Team.

During audition day, you are welcome to switch instruments mid-way through the Event. It is rare that we will ask you to switch instruments - it is ultimately your choice what you’d like to audition on. However, if you ask us during the audition, we will be honest with you regarding your status and may suggest you switch instruments if you want to be part of the 2020 ensemble.
