WHAT IS CROSSROADS INDOOR?

Write here…

Crossroads Indoor was founded for the 2018 competitive Indoor Marching Arts season and is recognized by the state of Iowa as a 504 nonprofit corporation, as well as a 501(c)(3) public charity

Crossroads Indoor exists to provide access to one of the most rewarding performance opportunities available to marching arts students.

Every year, thousands of marching band performers audition for competitive ensembles which perform marching band-style programs indoors in gymnasiums during the months of February-April. These competitive ensembles generally consist of performers between the ages of 14 and 22, in mixtures of high school and independent programs. Each competitive program learns a 6-10 minute program and rehearses countless hours to create the highest-quality program possible.

The benefits of these performance opportunities are immeasurable, particularly for college-aged performers. These individuals commit hundreds of hours during the Spring semester to learn and perfect a physically and mentally demanding program. The skills learned by these young performers include time management, financial management, interpersonal communication, performance quality, team dynamics, and so much more.

Finally, in mid-April, hundreds of ensembles come to together in Dayton, OH for a World-Championships Event, hosted by a parent organization, Winter Guard International (WGI).

Crossroads Indoor is an independent ensemble (not associated with any high school or university) which consists of two competitive ensembles - Crossroads Percussion and Crossroads Guard. Until extremely recently, our programs were the only competitive ensembles in Iowa. Fortunately, because our organization hosts multiple performance opportunities in Iowa throughout February-April, many high schools and even several other independent programs have been founded in Iowa.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is two-fold.

FIRST. The founding members have all committed significant portions of their lives to participate in Winter Guard International (WGI), usually at the expense of financial security, balanced lifestyles, and academics. In part, our mission is to provide access to a world-class caliber of instruction and performance opportunity which we struggled to experience – in a location accessible to Iowa performers.

SECOND. We will be a stable platform to bring together the most passionate individuals in the region to make a difference in the activity. Collectively, our educational team has 70+ years of marching and teaching experience, and we will do our part to provide access to this knowledge and expertise by being at the forefront of marching education in Iowa.

What we’ve Accomplished

Since our incorporation in 2017, we have competed and represented Iowa in many Events, both regionally and nationally. Our Percussion program has attended and placed 1st at Minnesota Percussion Association Championships. Our Percussion and Guard have both attended WGI World Championships on multiple occasions. In 2018, our Percussion program earned a finalist placement at WGI World Championships.

We have hosted an annual showcase event, which has brought together thousands of spectators and hundreds of performers who otherwise would not have had a performance opportunity. As an extension of this effort, we have began a formalized circuit for Iowa performers, and more information can be found at www.iowaima.org for those Events.

We have hosted experience clinics for performers in Des Moines, Ames, Iowa City, Davenport, and Omaha.

We are recognized through the Iowa Nonprofit Resource Center’s Register of Accountability.
